Terms of Service & User Agreement

Welcome to Sublern! These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you", or "your") and Sublern ("we", "our", or "us"), governing your access to and use of the Sublern browser extension (the "Extension"), the website at sublern.pro (the "Site"), and all associated APIs, vocabulary tools, and services (collectively, the "Services").
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, registering for, or using any part of the Services, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately uninstall the Extension and discontinue using the Services.
2. User Accounts and Security
Eligibility: You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum legal age required in your country) to create an account.
Account Accuracy: When registering via email or Google Sign-In, you agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information.
Credential Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and authentication tokens. You agree to notify us immediately if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.
Account Responsibility: You are solely responsible for all activities and data synchronization occurring under your account credentials.
3. License & Permitted Use
Subject to these Terms, Sublern grants you a revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, personal license to use the Extension and Site solely for your personal, educational, non-commercial language learning activities.
Prohibited Conduct: You agree that you will NOT:
- Decompile, reverse-engineer, disassemble, or extract proprietary source code or private API keys from the Extension or backend servers.
- Use automated scripts, bots, spiders, or scrapers to extract vocabulary, abuse translation endpoints, or flood servers with traffic.
- Resell, sublicense, lease, or commercially exploit access to Sublern's cloud services, speech recognition, or OCR features.
- Bypass or attempt to circumvent authentication mechanisms, role-based access controls, or feature access limits.
- Interfere with or disrupt the normal operation, integrity, or security of the Services or connected servers.
4. Fair Use of AI, Speech-to-Text & OCR Services
Certain advanced features of Sublern (such as audio speech recognition via Deepgram and video optical character recognition via OCR.space) rely on third-party computational infrastructure.
- These features are intended solely for interactive personal language learning while viewing video media.
- To prevent server abuse and ensure quality of service for all learners, we may enforce rate limits, usage quotas, or temporary restrictions on high-bandwidth media processing.
- Accounts exhibiting abusive, non-human, or automated utilization may have access to AI and OCR features restricted or terminated without prior notice.
5. Third-Party Video Platforms & Intellectual Property
All video content, third-party trademarks, service marks, logos, and original media subtitles are the exclusive intellectual property of their respective copyright holders. Sublern does not host, store, republish, distribute, or claim ownership of any third-party video or audio content. Sublern processes subtitle elements locally within your browser strictly to assist you in looking up definitions and vocabulary.
6. User Vocabulary & Content Ownership
You retain all ownership rights to the vocabulary words, custom translations, notes, and personal learning history created within your account.
By synchronizing your dictionary with Sublern, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, back up, and transmit your vocabulary data solely to provide you with the Services (including cross-device synchronization and web-based flashcard trainers).
7. Disclaimer of Warranties ("As Is")
The Services are provided strictly on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory.
- Accuracy: Translations, example sentences, and speech transcriptions are generated automatically and may contain inaccuracies or contextual errors. Sublern does not guarantee the academic or linguistic accuracy of automated translations.
- Platform Compatibility: Third-party streaming platforms may alter their website code, user interface, or subtitle players at any time, which may temporarily disrupt subtitle parsing until an extension update is published. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free compatibility with any third-party website.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Sublern and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or study progress arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Services.
9. Termination & Account Deletion
You may terminate these Terms at any time by stopping your use of the Services, deleting your account, and removing the Extension from your browsers.
We reserve the right to suspend, terminate, or delete your account or access to the Services if you violate these Terms or engage in fraudulent, abusive, or harmful activities.
